A doctor in Indiana that said she was wrongly accused of substance abuse has won $5.8 million in a defamation and fraud lawsuit against her former employer.
Rebecca Denman, an obstetrician-gynaecologist, was awarded the damages by a jury in Indiana after suing St. Vincent Carmel Hospital and St. Vincent Medical Group, after a 4-year legal battle.
Denman's lawsuit stemmed from an incident in December 2017, where she said she was wrongly accused of smelling like alcohol during a shift at the hospital.
"I feel vindicated," Denman said in a statement. "It has been a very difficult four years for me, and it is my hope that this finally puts the matter to rest."
