A report by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) seeks a UK-wide minimum concussion protocol within the next year, calling also for the Health and Safety Executive to be more closely involved.
The report goes on to say that the protection provided to workers apply to footballers and jockeys just as they do to miners and construction workers.
Although no definitive causal link was established between sport and dementia, the report cited a significant minority of sportspeople who would face chronic neurological issues as a result of their participation in sport.
We still want people to enjoy the sport they love but be aware of the risk and have as many safety protocols in place as are sensible.
