The investment, which will come through BEIS to support Research and Development (R&D), will increase the total UK R&D investment amount above the goal set in the November 2020 Spending Review. However, there are concerns that the estimated £14 billion required to remain in the 7-year Horizon Europe programme as part of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement, may actually result in less investment in UK based research.
